If you are a college percussionist, chances are you've studied Afro-Cuban and Brazilian percussion, or Ewe drumming from Ghana. Wula Drum is entering the scene with djembe drumming from Guinea, West Africa with M'Bemba Bangoura.
Students learn drum techniques for djembe, dundun, krin (log drum), and more from one of the world's greatest djembe players. Most importantly, they gain an understanding of the cultural significance and history of djembe music in West Africa and the world.
To bridge the gap with Western music, we've created transcriptions for many of the rhythms we teach.
In addition, our streamable Playalong Series give students easy access to all the ensemble parts plus a call-and-response playalong track with M'Bemba.

Book Wula DrumLet’s move our bodies! Learn the energetic dance styles from West Africa, accompanied by live drumming. Dance is a great bonding activity, teaches balance and coordination, and creates unity for the entire group.
Our master artists teach the rhythms of West Africa, while your campers have fun playing music as a group! Wula can provide a drum for each participant to play. Campers will be taught the technique to make the proper sounds, the history of the rhythms, and their cultural significance.
Wula Drum has everyone jumping out of their seats, grooving to the rhythms of the drums. Participants are transported to West Africa and invited to join in with clapping and singing - and even brought up to dance! The performances are entertaining, educational, and experiential.
Wula Drum is dedicated to promoting diversity and group unity through the arts.
Our belief is that music and dance transcend the boundaries of race, culture, and class. Our goal is to create a feeling of openness towards learning about other cultures, have fun doing it, and unite the group through drumming and dancing!
